Terms of service

These terms set out how you and LAYR work together when you order one of our pieces. We've written them in plain language, because a trustworthy product deserves trustworthy small print. Nothing here takes away the rights you have as a consumer under EU and Czech law — those always apply.

By placing an order, you agree to the terms below.

Who we are

LAYR Map is a small independent studio based in Prague, Czech Republic. We design and make custom 3D topographic map art of running, cycling and adventure routes.

The seller behind LAYR is:

  • Max-Hermann Hoek, sole trader (OSVČ — a registered self-employed individual)
  • Business ID (IČO): 17184576
  • Registered address: Revoluční 1082/8, 110 00 Praha 1 – Nové Město, Czech Republic
  • Email: info@layrmap.com

We are not registered for VAT (neplátce DPH), so no VAT is added to or shown on your order.

You can reach us any time at info@layrmap.com, or through the Message us bubble on any page.

What we make

Every LAYR piece is made to order and personalised to you. We build a 3D topographic relief of the route you choose, print it layer by layer in 100% recycled PLA, and set it over a printed map inside a solid wood frame.

Because each piece is created specifically from the route and options you provide, no two orders are the same — and there is no off-the-shelf stock. This matters for how returns work, which we explain below.

How ordering works

You design your piece in our live 3D configurator. In short:

  1. Choose your route — either select one from our built-in library of popular marathons and half-marathons, or upload your own GPX file.
  2. Choose your frame colour — black, white or natural wood.
  3. See it on screen — a live 3D preview shows your exact final piece, from the shape of the terrain to the frame, before you pay.

The on-screen 3D preview is the approved design. When you place your order, you're confirming that the piece shown is what you want us to make. We make exactly that. Please take a moment to check your route and options before you check out — the preview is there so there are no surprises.

An order is confirmed once your payment is successfully processed and you receive an order confirmation by email.

Prices, currency and payment

The available size is 21 × 30 cm, priced at 1,100 CZK (about €45). Prices are shown in your local currency at checkout; any euro or other figures elsewhere on the site are approximate and for guidance only. (Two further sizes are coming soon.)

As a non-VAT seller, no VAT is added to your order.

Payment is handled securely through Shopify Payments. You can pay with all major cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro), plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. We never see or store your full card number.

If the price for non-EU destinations doesn't include local import duties or taxes, those may be charged separately by the carrier or customs on delivery — see Shipping for details.

Production and delivery

Your piece is made to order, with a production time of 1–3 working days, after which it ships. Delivery times and costs depend on where you are; full, up-to-date details — including free shipping over 2,500 CZK in every country we deliver to — are on our Shipping page.

Delivery estimates are given in good faith but aren't guaranteed, as transit times can be affected by the carrier and circumstances outside our control.

Your guarantee, and returns

We want you to love your piece. Here's how your rights work.

Custom-made means no "changed-my-mind" returns. Because each piece is personalised to your route and choices, it's exempt from the standard 14-day right of withdrawal under EU consumer law. The live 3D preview is there precisely so you can approve the exact piece before buying. By ordering a personalised item, you acknowledge this.

Your guarantee still fully applies. If your piece arrives damaged, faulty, or not as you ordered — in other words, our error — we put it right with a free remake, replacement or refund. This statutory guarantee of conformity lasts 24 months. Just contact us at info@layrmap.com with a few photos within a reasonable time, and we'll sort it out.

Damaged in transit counts too: we'll send a free replacement.

You can read the full detail on our Returns & Guarantee page.

Your route content and GPX files

When you upload a GPX file or other content, you confirm that you have the right to use it and to let us use it to make your piece. We use your uploaded route only to create your order — nothing else. We don't sell it, share it or repurpose it.

Please don't upload anything that infringes someone else's rights or that you're not entitled to share.

Intellectual property

The LAYR name, our website, the 3D configurator, our designs, photography and other materials belong to us and are protected by law. Ordering a piece gives you the physical product to enjoy — it doesn't transfer ownership of our brand or underlying designs.

Of course, the route is yours: your run, your story, your map.

Our responsibility to you

We take real care over every piece and stand behind our work, as set out in your guarantee above.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, or for matters outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law — including your guarantee of conformity. Those rights always come first.

Governing law and your consumer rights

These terms are governed by the laws of the Czech Republic. This choice of law doesn't deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer rights you enjoy in your country of residence within the EU — those remain fully preserved.

If something goes wrong

If you're ever unhappy, please contact us first at info@layrmap.com — we'll always try to make it right, quickly and fairly.

You also have the right to turn to the supervisory body for consumer disputes in the Czech Republic, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority (Česká obchodní inspekce, ČOI — www.coi.cz).

If you bought online, you can also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

Updates to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time as our studio grows. The terms that apply to your order are the ones in force when you place it.
